F100 MORAINE VALLEY COMMUNITY ORCHESTRA An ensemble that performs several concerts each semester, exploring orchestra literature from the Baroque to the 20th century and beyond. Enrollment is open to orchestral instruments including violin, viola, cello, bass violin and winds. Musicians should be at least 15 years old, and be proficient music readers with experience in high school or college orchestra or band. Director’s approval required for new members. F150 MORAINE VALLEY JAZZ COMBO This performance group is dedicated to the exploration of small group jazz improvisation and interaction. Enrollment is open to a flexible instrument format, including saxophones, trumpets, trombones, strings, percussion, keyboard/piano, guitar, bass and more. Musicians should be strong music readers; experience playing jazz is helpful. Study and performances include masterworks by significant jazz artists as well as important jazz song forms. F100 MORAINE VALLEY JAZZ ENSEMBLE A 20-member jazz big band comprised of adult community members, college students, and advanced high school students 16 and older. This group provides ensemble experience for saxophone, trombone, trumpet, guitar, piano, bass and drum set, dedicated to the performance and exploration of big band and jazz literature from the 1930s to the present. Repertoire emphasizes study of masterworks by significant historical and contemporary jazz composers. Musicians must be proficient notation readers. Experience performing in a high school or college jazz ensemble is preferred. Ability to improvise over jazz chord progressions is helpful. F100 PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE This group of percussionists is dedicated to the performance and exploration of music such as ragtime, classical, popular, Caribbean/Latin, chamber and jazz as transcribed for this unique instrumentation. The ensemble will perform several concerts each semester both on and off campus. Members need not have a percussion background to participate but should possess intermediate to advanced music reading skills. Note that after the first few rehearsals, occasional rehearsals will be broken down into smaller formats: trios, quartets, quintets and etc. which may not require member’s attendance for the full rehearsal.
